Just spent around an hour trying to get my wife's laptop to connect wirelessly to my Canon IP5000 printer connected to my new Windows 7 x64 machine. It all worked fine when I was running Windows XP x86.
Once the IP5000 printer is marked shared there is an additional drivers button on the sharing tab and hitting that I checked the x86 driver to install it but it wants a disk location for the driver. I downloaded the latest x86 driver from Canon and unzipped it but no amount of pointing Windows 7 at the inf file would install it. Always failed with Selected printer driver not found.
It turns out Windows thinks my printer is the "Canon Inkjet PIXMA iP5000" but the inf file Canon supplies is for the "Canon PIXMA iP5000" so as they don't match Windows 7 won't install it. I had to edit the inf file and change the "Canon PIXMA iP5000" occurrences in "Windows2000" and "WindowsXP" sections.
Thanks Canon or Microsoft!
